Letter from F. E. Cummins to one of his Brothers, while a prisoner during the Civil War.

Rockin??? Prison Barrariks No. 5 April 15, 1864 )Probably Rock Island)

Dear Brother, I received your kind & welcome leter yesterday & it found me in good health & I hope this may find you all well. I am glad to hear you are getting along very well, but I don't want you to let them horses runaway with you anymore. I want to know if you ride Jack Ass to Pleasant or not. You have wrote to me how Miss Bell is getting along. I can hear of you being their pretty near every Sunday. Bro. Will speaks a good word ever once & awhile to Miss _? for me. I would like to know how Mike is getting along. I never hear from him. Now, I would like to know if he thinking about the girles or not as he was allways going to see them when I was at home. You was writing to me you wanted me to be at home to make a crop with you. Some one of you may prepare for me to work with you for I think I will be released or exchanged in less time then two weeks. Tell Mother I am doing fine now. I have plenty of tobacco to smoke & plenty to eat. I hope I will get to see her before a great while.

I remain your efecton Brother until death. I have postage stamps aplenty. I will write in my next leter if I need them. F. E. Cummins

Give my love & respects to Mother & all the family.
