17. Thomas Cummings
Thomas was a soldier in Captain John Lewis' Company, 2d Virginia State Regiment, June and July 1778. He was also in the Battle of Fort Sullivan, Charlston, SC. He left Fauquier County, VA around 1789 and went to Washington County, KY. This area is now Marion County.
Caldwell Co. Deedbook O, p. 280-1, 15 Oct. 1849. Hezekiah Oliver and N. H. Cummins, agents and attorneys for the heirs of Simon Cummins, dec'd. sell to Absolon Sanders for $100 (two) tracts of land in Caldwell. One of 50 acres bought in 1825 and recorded in Deed Book D, page 329 adjoining Thomas Marsh, Robert Parker, John Crow, and Abram Sanders. Second tract of 12 acres bought 5 Feb. 1825, Deed Book D, p. 130. adjoining Robert Parker, John Crow, Abram Sanders. Signed Hezekiah Oliver and N. H. Cummins, agents for Simon Cummins heirs. Entered 15 Oct. 1849.
Caldwell Co. Deedbook O, p. 345-6, 23 January 1849. Elizabeth Cummins sells to A. W. Oliver both of Caldwell, for $225 100 acres in Caldwell on Eddy Creek. Part of a 1000 acre military survey in the name of Levingine, from Levingine to A. Sanders to Drury Sanders to Wm. Oliver to John George to Elizaberth Cummins. Test: Hezekiah Oliver and Wm. H. Cummins. Signed Elizabeth X Cummins. Entered as "..deed from Elizabeth Cummins to Andrew W. Oliver..."29 Jan. 1849.
