In the Fauquier County Court for the November Term 1815 (Will Book 6:77), Alexander's son Simon and three other persons sued to partition Alexander's land in order to provide his widow her dower. The remainder of theland was to be sold at public auction and the proceeds divided equally among the listed claimants. The related advertising ran in the Winchester Gazette. .... A year and a half later one of the accounts of his estate administration listed a disbursement to Williams Cummings, son of Alexander Cummings, to reimburse cash for a bond in the amount of $70.16.

This family lived for a while in Montgomery County, VA, then left for Knox County, TN, where they settled.
