1. Nicholas Cummins

Nicholas Cummins came to America from London, on the ship 'Guifte of God' in
1622. The 'Guifte of God', with 100 persons left England in April, and arrived
in Virginia, probably in July, 1622. His arrival was three months after an
Indian massacre that killed about three hundred and fifty persons in the
Colony.

Nicholas worked on construction of a fort at "Bennetts plantation", (Bennett
was the owner of the 'Guifte of God'), from 1623 to 1630. In 1630 Nicholas
lived in the first settlement south of the Charles River called Queen's Creek.

In 1639 Nicholas, then a tobacco viewer for an area from Archer's Hope to
Wareham's Ponds, was granted 200 acres on Utye's Creek.

Nicholas' will dated 12 Sep 1655, was recorded 24 Apr 1656, York County,
Virginia, and named the following persons:
son: Nicholas (II) Cummins (our ancestor)
dau: Elizabeth Harrison (wife of Robert)
wife: Ellen

Ellen Cummins died in 1660 and son Nicholas (II) inherited 200 acres on King's
Creek plus an unknown quantity of land on Bryry Swamp. He also later owned
land on Ware Creek in New Kent County. His wifes name was Elizabeth, and their
son William married Ann ________. alexander (I) Cummins, son of William and
Ann, was born 10 Dec 1677, in St Stephen's Parish, Northumberland County. In
1690 William was appointed Overseer of the Highways for part of Bruton Parish.
Ann died in 1691. William died in 1712. Alexander (I) married Sarah Muttoone.
In 1723 alexander (I) owned fifty acres in Stafford and 220 acres in King
George County.

Alexander (I) died between 1737 and 1739. He had two sons:
1. Malachi Cummins b. 1695
2. Simon Cummins (I) b. 1700 (our ancestor)

Simon Cummins (I) will recorded 19 Apr 1771 in Fauquier County, VA. His wife
was Elizabeth (?) and their children were:
Alexander (II) (our ancestor)
Sarah (Mynatt) b. 13 Feb 1734
John Cummings b. 1741

Conney (Birceram)
Elizabeth
Peter

Alexander (II) married Sebitha (Luttrell?) and the following children have been
proven:
1. William
2. Simon (II) b. 20 Jul 1787 (our ancestor)
3. Elijah

Simon (II) married Elizabeth Oliver 4 Sep 1808. elizabeth was born 18 Mar 1790
in Fauquier County, VA, and was the daughter of Levin and Elizabeth Oliver.

Alexander (II) died in 1813 in Fauquier County VA.

In 1817 Simon (II) and his family and his wifes family (the Olivers), left
Fauquier County VA and settled in Bourbon County KY. In 1825 they moved to
Caldwell (now Lyon) county.

Our direct line from Simon (II) is (1) Noah H. Cummins, (2) Michael H Cummins
and (3) Mary Evelyn Cummins Gray.
