Descendants of William Crow

Notes

Per Linda Monticelli (on GenForum), there was a law suite of 1845-1848, that named all the children of Mary Lamb Crow.

Linda Lamb Monticelli wrote a lengthy article on The Longshore Lamb Family. It is contained in "Western Kentucky Journal" Volume 14, No. 2 Spring 2007.

Moved to KY from 96 District, SC bet. 1810-13. Md.lst. date unknown, SC., wife unknown. Some ch. born in SC. Md. 13 Oct 1828 [bond date] to Nancy Harris.

I have seen the following several times, but have seen no proof of this: According to Nancy A. Collins: Moses followed in his father's footsteps and picked up a wife somewhere in the Indies [whether Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba or St. Tropez is uncertain]. He bought her from her father, a British Officer, which suggests that she was at least mulatto, possibly octaroon. In any case, she was the mother of Delilah, and apparently died when Delilah was 11-12. There was bad feeling against this woman, as her name was cut from the family bible and chiseled off her tombstone.

Willie Gruber lists several children for William Sr that I have listed as children of Moses, son of William Sr.

From Western KY Journal Winter 2000: "Miscellaneous Records Caldwell County, KY 1811 0 1866" 19 Oct 1816: Agreement between the Gentlemen Justices of peace composing the County Court of Caldwell County and Moses Crow. At the May term of sd. Court, the Court took into consideration the helpless condition of James Mercer Senr., he from age and infirmity not being able to gain a support by labor, the Court appointed Reuben Rowland a commissioner to find a suitable place for the residence of Mercer, where he might be fed and clothed and Mercer choosing the house of Crow. Crow proposed to keep Mercer one year for the sum of $75 and as it appeared to the satisfaction of Rowland that Mercer was living and had been some time before the May term at the house of Crow. Therefore it is agreed that Crow shall receive $75 for feeding, clothing and comfortably taking care of James Mercer Senr. from the fourth Monday in May 1816 until the fourth Monday in May 1817, to be paid out of the levy of 1816. [signed] Moses (X his mark) Crow. Teste: Reuben Rowland.
