As many of you know (but some may not) mom’s sister, Margaret Hilda Williamson vonArx, was in the hospital with kidney failure on May 11th and a stroke on June 1st.
She passed away this morning. (June 5 about 4:30 Eastern – 3:30 Central time)
Mom and I were in Indianapolis with her the week she was in the hospital for kidney failure. She was able to be at home with us for a couple of days then went back into the hospital. We had such a good visit with her… and you all know that she kept us entertained much of the time. She first chose not to take dialysis treatments, but changed her mind after thinking about it for a couple of days. With the encouragement of her sons and grandsons, she returned to the hospital and began dialysis.
After being released from the hospital a 2nd time, she was feeling better than she had in many months, but last Monday, she suffered a stroke which left her paralyzed on her left side. She was unable to respond the first few days, but was alert enough about the 3rd day to respond to questions from the doctors, nurses, John & Jean. She did not wish to remain on dialysis knowing that it would be only a matter of days before she died… (kicked the bucket as she called it.) She agreed to be transferred to St. Vincent’s Hospice, which was near the hospital and spent one night there. One nurse told John that there is no pain with kidney failure that the patient merely goes to sleep. That has helped him a lot.
Robert is in New York, and was unable to make a trip back to Indianapolis, but he was home the end of April for his son (Max’s) birthday and saw her then.
Mother and I were planning to go to Indianapolis again tomorrow – so are still going up to help John and Jean go through the things in her apartment. At this time, there are no arrangements… her wish was to be cremated, but not to have a memorial service. I am not sure what John will do, however.
I am including addresses for John, Luby, Jerry & Mom at the end of this note in case any of you wish to send them a note. (I don’t have an address for Robert in New York)
